Historical Sites

Some of the most important events in America’s history took place in Cumberland County. From General Sherman’s infamous march to Babe Ruth’s first home run, our community is filled with points of archival interest.

Iron Mike Statue

This 15-foot statue is dedicated to the airborne trooper who is always watching, waiting, and alert. "Iron Mike," the post's most prominent symbol since 1961, was the creation of the wife of a former deputy post chaplain. His stance is that of an airborne soldier who has completed a combat jump.

JFK Special Warfare Museum

Established in 1963, this museum spotlights the proud history of the US Army Special Operations and Special Forces units, also know as the Green Berets. It also contains many unique items from World War II, The Vietnam War and current operations.

Hilltop House

The Hilltop House is a fine dining restaurant located in an elegant home from the early 1900's and is situated in the historic Haymount district of Fayetteville. It has a rich and varied history.

Driving Trails

With over 750 miles of themed driving trails, it’s safe to say America’s Hometown is steeped in history. Whether exploring the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens on the All-American Adventure trail, taking in a live theatre production at Cape Fear Regional Theatre on the Patri-Arts & Gardens trail or witnessing a parachute jump at Fort Bragg on the Patriots: Past & Present trail, Fayetteville/Cumberland County has the perfect route planned for whatever your interest might be.
