Celebrating Heritage: Selections from the Hazel & John Biggers Collection

As part of the Fine Arts Series and FSU Sesquicentennial Celebration, the Rosenthal Gallery will present an exhibition of artworks from the John and Hazel H. Biggers Estate, entitled Celebrating Heritage: Selections from the Hazel and John Biggers Collection. It will feature over 35 works from leading African American artists of the last century. Highlighted in the selection will be works from John Biggers, Elizabeth Catlett, Hale Woodruff, Walter Williams, Charles White, James Van Derzee, Paul Goodnight and others. The exhibition is an excellent survey of Black creativity from 1930 to 1999.


An opening reception will be held on MLK Day, January 15th, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Family members of John Biggers will speak at 2:00 p.m. The exhibit will then remain on display through February 25, 2018.

Clash of the Barriers: The Battle of the Coral Sea

An Australian naval exhibit, Clash of the Carriers: the Battle of the Coral Sea, is on display at the U.S. Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum (ASOM). The three-banner display and dramatic new video documentary presentation highlights the four days in May 1942 when three navies, four aircraft carriers, 255 aircraft and 76 ships fought a battle that changed naval warfare forever. The exhibit is on loan from the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM), with the ASOM as the second stop on its tour of the United States. The exhibit will remain on display here through February 4, 2018.

This area’s organizations, businesses, institutions, families and individual men and women and children rose to the occasion when our nation entered World War I. With a focus on both military service and efforts on the home-front, this exhibit commemorates the centennial of the United States in the Great War. This exhibit will run through 2018. All ages welcome.
