Celebrating Heritage: An Estate Exhibition & Sale of African Art

Biggers has graciously contracted with Ellington-White Contemporary for this momentous exhibition and sale of estate African artifacts collected by artist John Biggers. A reception will be held on Saturday, January 20th, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The exhibit and sale will then continue through March 3, 2018.

Songs for a New World: A Musical by Jason Robert Brown

Sweet Tea Shakespeare’s first-ever musical is Jason Robert Brown’s beloved “theatrical song cycle” about making choices in the modern world. A handful of performers portray multiple characters facing a moment of decision in their families, jobs, and relationships; their choices and consequences are revealed through some of musical theatre’s most-loved songs.


Note: A jazz preshow will start 45 minutes prior to showtime. Food from Blackstone Smokehouse will be available for purchase, plus beer and wine.

17th Annual Civil War Quiz Bowl

Contestants test their knowledge of trivia, tactics and history as host Jim Greathouse assails them with questions covering all aspects of the War Between the States. The questions challenge the most avid Civil War buff. Open to contestants of all ages, prizes will be awarded for both the adult and student (16 and under) winners. This event is open to the public. Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex
Tour Times in Description

Join an Arsenal Tour on the grounds of the Museum to learn the historical relevance of this site for the city of Fayetteville. Visitors learn about the free and enslaved black men that worked in the Arsenal, the women who filled ammunition cartridges during its Confederate period, and the soldiers and families who experienced those changing political and social ideals first-hand. Dress comfortably for walking outdoors. Tours last approximately 45 minutes. During inclement weather, interpretive talks about the Arsenal will be given inside the Museum. Tours meet in the Museum lobby.


Tour Times: Every Friday at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Rockefeller House Tour

Carvers Creek State Park, Town of Spring Lake
2:00 p.m.

Park staff lead a historical tour through Mr. James Stillman Rockefeller’s winter estate. The group is led through and around the estate as they discuss the history of the surrounding structures, some dating back to the early 1800's. To attend the tour, sign-up is required ahead of time, either by stopping in or calling the park office. Participants are asked to allow at least 15 minutes to walk the half-mile to the Rain Shelter. Program will be cancelled if it rains or if other weather conditions make it unsuitable; if in doubt, call the main office.
