Market House

Originally the site of the State House, the current structure was built in 1832. Architecturally unique in North Carolina, the Market House is one of the few structures in North America to use the town hall scheme found in England. Today a National Landmark, the Market House stands as a unique focal point to our major downtown streets. Open each fourth Friday of the month (except December) and offers rotating exhibits of local historic interest. Transportation & Local History Musuem staff offers other historical programming and tours of this property.
