Gospel Great Hammond Headlines Concert

52nd WIDU Anniversary Celebration & Conference October 7-9th

Fayetteville, NC –  WIDU marks its 52nd Anniversary broadcasting at 1600AM  with a  weekend of special events at the Crown Center, culminating with a  concert featuring gospel music legend Fred Hammond.   “The WIDU Anniversary is not just a celebration of our radio station’s achievements, but an opportunity for us to enrich the community that has been supportive of our mission” said Sandy Cookman, VP & General Manager of WIDU.

On Thursday, October 7th, at 12 noon, Rev. Felica Thompson hosts a “Free To Be Me” live radio show, which is followed by a women’s empowerment luncheon at 1 pm with Pastor Beverly Crawford.  Tickets are available through WIDU radio at 910-483-6111..   At 3PM there is a woman’s empowerment conference with special guest, Dr. Grace Nichols.  The conference is open to the public.   

That evening at 7 pm, Rev. Dr. Jamal Bryant and James Fortune are the special guest at the Anniversary Unity Service featuring Stephen Hurd and the WIDU Mega Mass Choir.  Admission is free.

A prayer breakfast is slated for Friday October 8th at 9:30 am.   WIDU Anniversary Expo follows, opening at 12 noon with a  30 minute live concert with Darrell McFayden & the Singing Disciples. Empowerment sessions are held throughout the day until 7PM and at 7:30 PM Canton Jones takes the stage as the capstone event of the day . Admission to the Anniversary Expo is free.   Tickets for the prayer breakfast are available through WIDU radio 910-483-6111.
 
Fred Hammond headlines the 52nd Anniversary Celebration concert on Saturday October 9th. The event starts at 4 pm. Other acts are Tye Tribbett, Bishop Rudolph McKissick Jr,  Lee Williams and the WIDU Mega Mass Choir.  Tickets for the concert are available at Ticketmaster or at the Crown Center
