In 2015/16 Bureau Efforts Generated $8.1 Million Direct Spending in Cumberland County

Cumberland County, NC-- In FY 2015/16, the Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (FACVB) secured 86 meetings, sports tournaments, reunions and group visits for future business in Cumberland County.  These bookings represent more than 23,500 room nights at area hotels and a direct economic impact of $8.1 million.  The indirect, rollover impact on our economy is $20.3 million.

Additionally, in FY 15/16, the FACVB  redesigned the Cumberland County Cultural Heritage Trails ( and launched five videos that highlight fun, lively things to do in Cumberland County (

Other FY 15/16 results:

Ø  Saw over 170,000 unique visitors to

Ø  Secured 3,754 listings for Cumberland County events in local, regional and travel trade websites and print publications.

Ø  Handled 14,047 visitor inquiries at three visitor centers.

Ø  Issued 25 press releases, hosted 12 travel writers and generated 75 pieces of publicity for Cumberland County tourism amenities.

Ø  Attended 18 trade shows to gather leads for future meetings, tournament and group tour business for Cumberland County.

Ø  Launched a new sports website,,and sports collateral to support recruitment of sports tournaments.

“In the last year, we added several touch points to our data collection to get a better understanding of visitors and their interests,” says John Meroski, FACVB president and CEO. “As we move into 2016/17 we will continue to refine our processes and systems to ensure we are best serving  visitors to Cumberland County.”

The FY 15/16 visitor profile showed

Ø  Following NC (23%), the top three states our visitors hail from are New York (7%), Florida (7%) and  Virginia (5%).

Ø  Top three reasons for visiting are Visiting Friends/Family (25%), Vacation (17%) and Business with the Military (12%).

Ø  Visitors’ top three interests are Museums (15%), Historical Sites (13%) and Dining (11%).

Ø  Overall, visitors ranked their experience visiting Cumberland County at 4.65 out of 5.
