Heroes Homecoming Unites Vietnam Vets and Citizens from Across the Nation

America’s First Military Sanctuary Community Gives a Long Deserved Welcome Home to Vets

December 2011

Fayetteville, NC – December 13, 2011 – For the 10 days leading up to Veterans Day 2011, Fayetteville/Cumberland County, NC, became much more than a place where 200,000 troops deployed to go fight an unpopular war in Vietnam. Having gone unthanked for over 30 years, Vietnam veterans from around the country gathered in Fayetteville to take part in more than 60 events all geared towards honoring and paying tribute to them, generating some of the largest crowds the city has ever seen.

Heroes Homecoming was a major milestone in the long and complex history of the Vietnam War in this country. It was observed by thousands of veterans, active duty military, military and government officials, local residents and visitors from across the country and even the world. Event organizers plan to announce details about next year’s Heroes Homecoming in the coming months.
