Huske Hardware Brewery
\r\n\r\n

North Carolina's second-oldest brewery owners have changed hands a few times since it first transitioned from its hardware store origins in the late '90s. However, being 100% veteran-owned & operated is something they've always been able to proudly claim. One of those veteran owners, who majorly contributed to Huske's continued renovation and restoration over the years, once won the Vetrepreneur of the Year Award for his efforts. As one of Cumberland County's premier places for nightlife events and one of Downtown Fayetteville's Top Date Spots, Huske continues to be a staple for visitors and the local military community alike.

\r\n\r\n
Gaston Brewing Company (GBC)
\r\n\r\n

If you like to brewery hop and find yourself in Downtown Fayetteville, you're in luck! Just about a block from Huske, you'll find this beloved veteran-owned brewery with quite the inspiring origin story. A retired Green Beret and a retired paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne division both shared the same dream to pursue craft brewing. As fate would have it, these two were able to turn this little downtown space into an award-winning local favorite. Always full of smiling faces and located right beside military spouse-owned Pressed - A Creative Space, it's clear there's an incredible support system that surrounds GBC - and they're proud of it.

\r\n

\r\n\r\n
Dirtbag Ales Brewery & Taproom
\r\n\r\n

A U.S. Army officer, nurse, and medic walk into a bar…and the rest is history. This triple-threat of veterans took their talents to Hope Mills and opened up what has since become an iconic 8,000-sq. foot destination brewery. And by destination, I mean you could very well spend all day here. With athletic fields, a dog park, a music pavilion, and Napkins (an outstanding patio restaurant that also happens to be veteran-owned and operated) - Dirtbag is the complete package. If you haven't been to Dirtbag by now, let's just say it's "The Nicest Place in North Carolina" (Readers Digest). As proud host to a few upcoming Heroes Homecoming events, Veteran's Day Weekend may be the perfect time to experience Dirtbag, and all these breweries, and see for yourself.

\r\n

\r\n\r\n
Heckler Brewing
\r\n\r\n

Methodist University students (and staff) can now rejoice to know they have a brewery practically on campus! Northside Fayetteville's newest (and only) member of the local brewery scene has already shown big things come in small packages. Although located in a smaller space than their fellow breweries in town, it's perfect for showcasing their 16 diverse craft brews. While they don't currently serve food, their delicious next-door neighbors at Scrub Oaks will happily bring some over for you. With an already dedicated fan base established, don't be surprised to see this place continue to grow!

\r\n

\r\n\r\n
Mash House Restaurant and Brewery
\r\n\r\n

Last, but certainly not least, this local Fayetteville treasure always shows some massive support to military personnel. Although started by veterans and since changed hands, Mash House embraces the veteran foundation it was built upon by offering generous military discounts and supporting various military-related nonprofits. With so many rotating taps to choose from, you might want to grab a flight first while browsing through their food menu. Just to reemphasize, you will want to grab a menu because Mash House serves up some of the best locally sourced food you'll ever experience at a brewery.

","description":"In celebration of October as NC Beer Month and with Veteran's Day quickly approaching, what better time than now to raise a glass in honor of the veteran-owned breweries around Fayetteville. One of the best ways to thank a veteran for their service is continuing to support them and their endeavors after being discharged. So, when you grab a pint at one of these places, you know you're doing just that! Note: If you're like many of us who observe "Beer Month" about 12 times a year or so, then consider this your "go-to guide" of veteran-owned places to celebrate it…       Bright Light Brewing Company (BLBC) Two United States Army veterans who served together, continue serving their community together. Not only is that the short story of how BLBC came to be, but t's that beautiful sentiment that encapsulates what this place is all about: a passion for serving. It's got everything you'd want in a brewery, honestly. The atmosphere, back-alley patio, kid-friendly, and undoubtedly dog-friendly — the place just feels like a big family reunion. Many consider Fayetteville to be "America's Hometown", so if that's the case, you could consider BLBC as "America's Hometown Brewery". However, being 100% veteran-owned & operated is something they've always been able to proudly claim. One of those veteran owners, who majorly contributed to Huske's continued renovation and restoration over the years, once won the Vetrepreneur of the Year Award  for his efforts. Heroes Homecoming is BACK! After the 8th annual celebration of American heroes was limited to virtual events in 2020, the Fayetteville community is buzzing with excitement to reunite for all that Heroes Homecoming has in store for 2021. Because there are so many medical military and first responders who made it possible to reunite, this year’s event is specially dedicated to extending a big “Thank You” to these individuals. With events spread out throughout the week surrounding Veterans Day, there’s no shortage of fun to be had. In case you need some ideas of what to check out this year, here are our top 5 events you won’t want to miss…

\r\n\r\n

\r\n
VETERAN'S DAY PARADE
\r\n\r\n

Let’s start with the obvious. Around this time in 2020, it was exciting to see anyone walking down the street. So, imagine what it's going to feel like when seemingly the entire population of Cumberland County is back together on Hay St. while proudly cheering on the thousands of marching military members. Surely, it will be quite the spectacle. Plus, nothing says “Thank You” like a parade, and this parade will surely be one to remember for decades to come.

\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n
WOODPECKERS FALL FESTIVAL
\r\n\r\n

If you’re bringing the family to the parade, you’re going to want to head over to Segra Stadium right after to keep the good times rolling. Moms, get ready to snap those pics because, with all of the hayrides, games, and face painting going on; the picture-perfect moments await. Not to worry Dads, even though the Fayetteville Woodpeckers aren't playing, football games will be streaming and local brews will be poured, so you can have your picture-perfect moment too.

\r\n

\"Woodpeckers

\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n
M*A*S*H* RERUNS NIGHT
\r\n\r\n

It’s no secret that the vintage sitcom M*A*S*H* holds a special place in the hearts of many among the Fayetteville and Fort Bragg community. In fact, back in 2013, Heroes Homecoming was graced with the presence of M*A*S*H* cast members! Now, eight years later, what better way to honor the contributions of the medical military than sharing a laugh once again watching Hawkeye, Radar, and Hotlips grace the screens at Dirtbag Ales - one of Cumberland County’s most prominent (and just downright awesome) veteran owned-and-operated businesses.

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n
RED, WHITE, & BLUE FAMILY FUN RUN
\r\n\r\n

As a special tribute to the medical military and first responders, walkers and runners alike will be tracking around Downtown Fayetteville in military/medical-themed attire to show their support. Whether you’re a family of five with a stroller or a trained runner, the event is open to all. You can probably expect to see a lot of camo pants, white coats, and scrubs. However, if you’re running close to 3 miles, no one’s going to call you a scrub. That’s for sure.

\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n
VETERANS DAY RIDE
\r\n\r\n

What is probably the loudest and proudest event of the bunch, also is one for a great cause. The Veterans Day Ride is one of the most exciting events to be a part of. The event starts off at Fort Bragg Harley Davidson for a pre-ride party with food, music, prizes, and of course looking at all the decked-out motorcycles. Then, you hit the road in honor of the fallen veterans with all money raised being donated to Wreaths Across America. No Harley? No problem. All vehicles are invited to join the party and the ride!

","description":"Heroes Homecoming is BACK! In case you need some ideas of what to check out this year, here are our top 5 events you won’t want to miss…   VETERAN'S DAY PARADE Let’s start with the obvious. WOODPECKERS FALL FESTIVAL If you’re bringing the family to the parade, you’re going to want to head over to Segra Stadium right after to keep the good times rolling. M*A*S*H* RERUNS NIGHT It’s no secret that the vintage sitcom M*A*S*H* holds a special place in the hearts of many among the Fayetteville and Fort Bragg community. RED, WHITE, & BLUE FAMILY FUN RUN As a special tribute to the medical military and first responders, walkers and runners alike will be tracking around Downtown Fayetteville in military/medical-themed attire to show their support. Whether you’re a family of five with a stroller or a trained runner, the event is open to all. You can probably expect to see a lot of camo pants, white coats, and scrubs. However, if you’re running close to 3 miles, no one’s going to call you a scrub. That’s for sure.       VETERANS DAY RIDE What is probably the loudest and proudest event of the bunch, also is one for a great cause. Heroes Homecoming is happening November 6-13, 2021!  Check out HeroesHomecoming.com for all the details! Let’s be honest, life has been pretty hectic lately for most of us adults. After over a year of way too much time at home, where the phrase “going out” translated into a scavenger hunt for toilet paper or meeting the Uber Eats driver in the driveway, it’s finally time to get back to planning those much-needed nights out with that special someone. Whether you’re meeting up for your first date, looking for an impromptu getaway, or finally shipping those kids off to your parents for the weekend, Downtown Fayetteville awaits! With so much to do in less than a one-mile radius, it is the perfect place to make up for lost time by checking off a few date spots, all in one evening. Check out these 7 great places to wine, dine, and (re)kindle the romance in Downtown Fay!

\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n
District House of Taps
\r\n\r\n

Fayetteville waited patiently for their first self-pour taproom, and oh boy did this place deliver! Opening just over a year ago, “Taps” has already won the hearts of locals by offering a unique atmosphere to enjoy 40 beers they can pour themselves. Located in what once was the Hilltop House in Historic Haymount District, the modernized space offers multiple seating options for larger parties, double dates, or that intimate table for two. If both you and your partner are avid fans of tasting the best local beer selection around, you’re going to want to start here…and maybe even finish here too.

\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n
Huske Hardware House
\r\n\r\n

For both the history buffs and people watchers out there, this 115-year-old building containing Fayetteville’s oldest brewery should check all boxes for you. However, if you ask locals, this place never gets old. Once, in fact, a hardware store, the space is quite accommodating to events and large crowds without the drawback of long waits for a table. As far as food goes, if your worried this is just your run- of-the-mill brewery food, think again. Their menu has some incredible selections for just about every mood. Shepherds pie? Check. Poutine? Check. Bacon-wrapped Filet Mignon? Check! Huske has just about everything you’re in the mood for. Plus, who could say, "No" to a date at a place with such a food & drink selection and one that is part of the National Register of Historic Places?

\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n
Fayetteville Woodpeckers @ Segra Stadium
\r\n\r\n

Sure, you could stay in another night and watch Fever Pitch on Netflix again. Or, you can go to an actual baseball game to live out that rom-com date night yourselves! Even for non-sports fans, watching the Fayetteville Woodpeckers play at Segra Stadium (aka the “The Ball Park of the Decade” according to Baseball Digest) is an experience in itself. Located just a block or two from each place on this list, it’s easy to grab drinks or dinner before and after the game. Although, with some of the best ballpark food and beverage options available in the state, you may not want to. If you’re looking to plan a date during the week, you should check out “Thirsty Thursdays.” Just saying.

\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n
Cameo Art House Theatre
\r\n\r\n

Again Netflix, we love you, but it’s time we see other movies. Plus, we’ve all missed the movie theatre experience, so why not support an independent movie theatre that missed you back? If you’re a fan of the arts, indy flicks, and eclectic atmospheres, then this is your ideal spot. If the multiple local media accolades such as “Best Movie Theatre in Fayetteville” and “Best Place to Take a Date” aren’t convincing enough, you can best believe that one whiff of their fresh popcorn will do the trick. They even offer theatre rental and private screenings if you’re looking for a more intimate night out - especially if this happens to be the night you plan to ask your date any sort of...important questions. Wink, wink.

Circa 1800
\r\n\r\n

Now, let’s talk about the eats! This is a staple for #foodies. Just ask the locals when they voted the “Fayetteville Fan-Favorite: Best Food Spot” earlier this year. Specializing in modern Southern cuisine, you will find that their locally sourced ingredients add an additional element of authenticity to their hearty, soulful selection. Every plate that comes out of the looks straight out of a magazine. If you’re here for dinner, you’ll notice a lot of those picturesque plates contain the Circa Chicken Piccata - it’s kind of famous around here. Of course, their brunch is pretty famous as well. So, whatever time of day you end up going, definitely save room for dessert. Their signature Bananas Foster is the perfect dish to sharing (or “split” rather) with your date.

\r\n

\r\n\r\n
Spoiler alert: Yes, these last two spots are both Italian. However, leaving off either one would be quite tragic considering both offer their own unique food options and dining experience. You want the best recommendations, right? Fantástico!
\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n
Pierro’s Italian Bistro
\r\n\r\n

“Bistro” by definition is a smaller place to get quality food that’s friendly on the wallet. That’s exactly what you can expect here. This is one of those places where people come for appetizers, but most develop a dinner craving almost immediately. If that craving happens to be pizza for dinner? Well then, you hit the jackpot! Very few would argue that this is the best pizza downtown. If you or your date aren’t in the pizza mood though, don’t be deterred, the options extend far beyond the tomato sauce and dough. Many will tell you that their Tuscan steak or Caprese salad is the best they’ve ever had too.

\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n
Antonella’s Italian Ristorante
\r\n\r\n

Not to say the best was saved for last necessarily, but locals did just recently name it as “Fayetteville Fan-Favorite: Best Date Spot” - which is hard to argue. The owner, Antonella Scibilia, learned the art of Southern Italian cuisine by working in her father’s restaurant as a child. If you’ve never experienced authentic Italian food, just try any of the pasta here. Upon the first bite, you will never be swayed by those unlimited soup, salad, and breadsticks places ever again. Not only will you get a genuine Italian food experience, but the elegant decor and Sicilian vibes will have you feeling you’re in Fayetteville’s little slice of Italy. Whether you sit indoors or out, you can guarantee a scrumptious meal and a divine wine selection - all in a truly romantic setting. So, don’t be surprised if you get the urge to tell that special someone those 3 little words they’ve been dying for you to say: “More Lasagna Dip?"

","description":"Let’s be honest, life has been pretty hectic lately for most of us adults. District House of Taps Fayetteville waited patiently for their first self-pour taproom, and oh boy did this place deliver! Huske Hardware House For both the history buffs and people watchers out there, this 115-year-old building containing Fayetteville’s oldest brewery should check all boxes for you. Fayetteville Woodpeckers @ Segra Stadium Sure, you could stay in another night and watch Fever Pitch on Netflix again. Cameo Art House Theatre Again Netflix, we love you, but it’s time we see other movies. Wink, wink.     @cameoarthouse       Circa 1800 Now, let’s talk about the eats! Spoiler alert: Yes, these last two spots are both Italian. However, leaving off either one would be quite tragic considering both offer their own unique food options and dining experience. You want the best recommendations, right? Fantástico!         Pierro’s Italian Bistro “Bistro” by definition is a smaller place to get quality food that’s friendly on the wallet. Antonella’s Italian Ristorante Not to say the best was saved for last necessarily, but locals did just recently name it as “Fayetteville Fan-Favorite: Best Date Spot” - which is hard to argue. So, don’t be surprised if you get the urge to tell that special someone those 3 little words they’ve been dying for you to say: “More Lasagna Dip?"       Ready to plan your visit? Plus, who could say, "No" to a date at a place with such a food & drink selection and one that is part of the National Register of Historic Places?     Fayetteville Woodpeckers @ Segra Stadium Sure, you could stay in another night and watch Fever Pitch on Netflix again. Cameo Art House Theatre Again Netflix, we love you, but it’s time we see other movies. Wink, wink.     @cameoarthouse       Circa 1800 Now, let’s talk about the eats! Antonella’s Italian Ristorante Not to say the best was saved for last necessarily, but locals did just recently name it as “Fayetteville Fan-Favorite: Best Date Spot” - which is hard to argue. So, don’t be surprised if you get the urge to tell that special someone those 3 little words they’ve been dying for you to say: “More Lasagna Dip?"       Ready to plan your visit?
