Heroes Homecoming is BACK! After the 8th annual celebration of American heroes was limited to virtual events in 2020, the Fayetteville community is buzzing with excitement to reunite for all that Heroes Homecoming has in store for 2021. Because there are so many medical military and first responders who made it possible to reunite, this year’s event is specially dedicated to extending a big “Thank You” to these individuals. With events spread out throughout the week surrounding Veterans Day, there’s no shortage of fun to be had. In case you need some ideas of what to check out this year, here are our top 5 events you won’t want to miss…

Let’s start with the obvious. Around this time in 2020, it was exciting to see anyone walking down the street. So, imagine what it's going to feel like when seemingly the entire population of Cumberland County is back together on Hay St. while proudly cheering on the thousands of marching military members. Surely, it will be quite the spectacle. Plus, nothing says “Thank You” like a parade, and this parade will surely be one to remember for decades to come.

If you’re bringing the family to the parade, you’re going to want to head over to Segra Stadium right after to keep the good times rolling. Moms, get ready to snap those pics because, with all of the hayrides, games, and face painting going on; the picture-perfect moments await. Not to worry Dads, even though the Fayetteville Woodpeckers aren't playing, football games will be streaming and local brews will be poured, so you can have your picture-perfect moment too.

It’s no secret that the vintage sitcom M*A*S*H* holds a special place in the hearts of many among the Fayetteville and Fort Bragg community. In fact, back in 2013, Heroes Homecoming was graced with the presence of M*A*S*H* cast members! Now, eight years later, what better way to honor the contributions of the medical military than sharing a laugh once again watching Hawkeye, Radar, and Hotlips grace the screens at Dirtbag Ales - one of Cumberland County’s most prominent (and just downright awesome) veteran owned-and-operated businesses.

As a special tribute to the medical military and first responders, walkers and runners alike will be tracking around Downtown Fayetteville in military/medical-themed attire to show their support. Whether you’re a family of five with a stroller or a trained runner, the event is open to all. You can probably expect to see a lot of camo pants, white coats, and scrubs. However, if you’re running close to 3 miles, no one’s going to call you a scrub. That’s for sure.

What is probably the loudest and proudest event of the bunch, also is one for a great cause. The Veterans Day Ride is one of the most exciting events to be a part of. The event starts off at Fort Bragg Harley Davidson for a pre-ride party with food, music, prizes, and of course looking at all the decked-out motorcycles. Then, you hit the road in honor of the fallen veterans with all money raised being donated to Wreaths Across America. No Harley? No problem. All vehicles are invited to join the party and the ride!
