. The quiz bowl is a game show type of competition where contestants are asked questions about the Civil War and Reconstruction. As in Jeopardy, contestants choose a category. Each contestant gets three strikes, or incorrect answers, before they are eliminated from play, until there is an adult and youth winner. (Youth is 16 and under.) History buffs of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to participate. You may sign up ahead of time by calling 910-500-4243 or email email@example.com. You may also sign up at the door the evening of the event. The contest provides space for 15 players.
Prizes are awarded to both winners. Like most of the museum’s events, it is free and open to the public. “We invite spectators to attend and cheer on the contestants. I’m reminded of that saying when watching game shows on TV. Be part of the ‘live studio audience,’” Greathouse reminds us.
Attending the Civil War & Reconstruction Quiz Bowl is a great way to build your knowledge on these two, and historically divisive, subjects. “Though one might say it’s like a trivia game, the information garnered from the event is anything but trivial,” concludes Greathouse.
