This course is free of charge and all tools and materials are provided. Students will learn the basic techniques necessary to assemble their own custom fishing rod. Each student will build a 6ft 6in medium action spinning rod from an IM6 blank, which they may keep on completion of the course. Topics covered in this course include:
· Finding the rod spine · Prepping guides and handles for installation · Guide spacing · Basic guide wraps · Applying epoxy
The course will be limited to 9 students due to space limitations. Pre-registration is required. Due to the length and complexity of this program, it is not recommended for youth under the age of 16 years old.
This workshop requires approximately 8 -10 hours to complete. Therefore it will be an all day class, from 8am to 5pm. Students will work at their own pace under guidance from staff and volunteers. Epoxy will be applied to threads, as the final step and rods will need to dry overnight. They may be picked up beginning Monday, April 26th.
