Town of Spring Lake History
Spring Lake was officially incorporated April 9th, 1951. This same year Grady Howard was elected as the first Mayor of Spring Lake.
Spring Lake owes some of its growth to Fort Bragg. Fort Bragg is the largest Army installation in the county, hosting over 45,000 military personnel. It’s also proud to be the home of the revered 82nd Airborne Division and the famed Golden Knights parachute team.
Spring Lake is a hub for outdoor activities- with Carvers Creek State Park being a centerpiece, showcasing some of our town’s natural beauty and history. Carvers Creek is home to Long Valley Farm- a retreat for James Stillman Rockefeller, of the famed Rockefeller Family.
Other activities include target shooting at the Fort Bragg Clay Target Center, and kayaking or canoeing at the Lower Little River. Enjoy rippling waters, snow white sand, and nature’s songs as you float through the woods.
