The Cape Fear Ruritan District is happy to welcome the Association of North Carolina Ruritans (ANCR) to Fayetteville April 27 2018. The Ruritan mascot is Rudy Bear and he is going on a military mission along with his fellow Ruritans to learn more about the military history at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum and to visit Fisher House at Ft. Bragg.
The Annual State Rally of the ANCR is held the fourth weekend in April of each year. The location of the Annual State Rally is determined by the Board of Directors on a rotating basis and this year Cape Fear is hosting the rally.
There will be two meeting sessions. The first is the ANCR business session where members learn of activities in the previous year and plan for the year. The second meeting session is where the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, all newly elected Directors and current District Governors take office during the installation ceremony. Our business session will be held on Friday night and the Installation Banquet will be on Saturday evening. This will give the attendees plenty of time to go shopping and/or sightseeing in the local area on Saturday.
All Ruritans in more than 20 states across the United States have an open invitation to attend this event. There are clubs as far west as Nebraska; as far south as Florida; and, as far north as New York. In years past, we have had great attendance from Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina, and, of course, folks from all across North Carolina.
Many may ask, “What is Ruritan?” It is a civic club that focuses on the community where the Ruritan club is located. The Ruritans began on 21 May 1928 in Holland, VA when city schools were merging with rural schools. The motto for Ruritan is Goodwill, Fellowship and Community Service. Most clubs participate in schools, support public service organizations, award scholarships to college bound students, are faith-based, and patriotic.
Ruritan clubs over the years, have been responsible for bringing public utilities to rural areas; soliciting for medical services; building and supplying fire departments; feeding the hungry; making our communities a safer place to live through community watches, traffic signs, and enhancing police services; helping students to further their education; donations to Veteran homes through time, meals, and supplies; erect and maintain Veteran memorials to honor those who fought for our freedoms; sponsor wounded warrior events; and, so many other activities.
